As part of our continued investment in skills development, BEL Engineering, part of the British Engines Group, has introduced Edgecam and Vericut software into its Training Academy, providing apprentices with real world, hands-on experience using digital manufacturing systems used across production.
The investment supports the continued evolution of the British Engines Apprenticeship Programme, with 24 apprentices currently training at BEL Engineering. By embedding industry-standard technology into their learning, the programme is helping to prepare and equip the next generation of engineers with the skills needed for modern manufacturing environments.
The introduction of Edgecam – which is used to create CNC machining programs – and Vericut – which provides offline verification through 3D machine simulation – forms part of wider investment across the Training Academy. This includes advanced CNC turning and milling machines, including 5-axis machining capability, helping to ensure apprentices train in an environment aligned closely with real production. Together, the software and machine capability give apprentices greater exposure to the full manufacturing lifecycle, from planning and programming through to machining and inspection. The addition of Edgecam and Vericut also supports the development of the new Engineering Technician apprenticeship pathway within British Engines, helping create stronger progression routes into manufacturing engineering roles and giving apprentices valuable experience with industry-recognised software.
